Warren Pope: Blood Lines Time Lines Red Lines -Northwest African American Museum [temporary exhibit]

The exhibition Warren Pope: Blood Lines, Time Lines, Red Lines was a provocative yet necessary exhibit of abstract minimal fine art that examined the historical and contemporary realities of redlining and displacement. Warren Pope's art explored matters of systemic inequities to investigate historic challenges within American communities. With architecturally influenced minimalism, the artist combined three dimensional art with basic visual elements such as lines, shapes, and color to explore the impact and result of redlining history. The exhibit displayed, thought provoking wit and historic truth; merging Pope’s creativity between an unorthodox imaginative use of canvas, wire, steel, banana leaf and wood. This extraordinary use of spacial design and thematic play on words and images elevated the topic of redlining and its painful history to a point of remembrance, awareness, question and artistic appreciation.
